A Research Assistant position is available at the Hong Kong Center for Neurodegeneration at Hong Kong Science Park. The individual will join a dedicated team that specializes in generating human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived platforms for the modelling of neurodegenerative diseases. The Research Assistant will be trained to reprogram somatic cells into iPSCs, differentiation of neuron, astrocytes, and microglia, and carry out characterization the differentiated cells using cutting-edge technologies.
Duties
- Daily maintenance of iPSC facility, i.e. inventory, ordering supplies, general upkeep
- Tissue culture and quality control of iPSC and iPSC-derived brain cells
- Differentiation and phenotyping assays including immunofluorescence staining and imaging, RT-qPCR, FACS
- Sustain a quality assured iPSC bank for use in a variety of projects
- Document all work in team notebook
- Organize cryopreserved samples in liquid nitrogen
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology/molecular biology/biochemistry/neurobiology or related field
- In addition to the techniques above, experience in the following is preferred:
gene editing, confocal imaging, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot - Past research experience in cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, or neuroscience at the undergraduate level or beyond is preferred
- Must be willing to learn, self-motivated, detail-oriented, team-oriented, and able to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Must have strong organizational, communication, and record-keeping skills
Salary and Benefits
Salary will be commensurate with relevant qualifications and experience. Medical and dental benefits, as well as annual leave, will be provided. The appointment will be offered on a one-year contract basis and renewable subject to mutual agreement and performance.
